Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools and OrthoCarolina have previously partnered to introduce a new STEM-based internship program that uses sports and statistical performance to better prepare students for careers in data analytics.

StatSquad, developed by Charlotte-based National Amateur Sports (NAS), provides an after-school learning opportunity for high school students to study the data analytics of sports. Students collect, input, edit and analyze scholastic athletic program data which is shared with athletic administrators and coaches to potentially be used as part of their game strategy.

StatSquad is currently in three CMS schools full time and NAS is pleased to announce that we will be making this program available to all schools across CMS starting this winter sports season. The application time frame will open on Wednesday, September 9th, 2015 and close Friday September 18th, 2015. Any school that submits an application during this time frame will be provided with the tools and guidance to effectively roll out the StatSquad program and apply it to one sport in their school.

This program will kick off with a StatSquad Learning day at Davidson College on Monday, October 5th, 2015. During the learning day StatSquad student/teacher teams from each participating school will attend a field trip to Davidson College where they will learn about the curriculum and implementation of this program in their school.

“We are very excited about the opportunity to offer this program to every school across CMS! We look forward to sharing this rewarding program with more schools.” – Sharon Jones, StatSquad Director

The link to the application will be located on the CMS site starting Wednesday, September 8th, 2015. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for updates on StatSquad dates and deadlines.
